I had just recently finished the Technic Lamborghini Cian, and was looking for other huge sets, and I ran into the thread. I have actually known about this set about two weeks ago, and when I saw the pictures of four modular building forming Diagon Alley, I knew that I was going to get it day one, even if that meant standing in line. Come this morning, I get to the local Lego store here in Vegas just to discover I'm actually the first one in line, I was so excited (got there around 8:45 am pst, store didn't open until 11:00 am pst). It's so awesome to now have Diagon Alley in my possession and find out that I was the first person in Vegas to get it. Fortunately, I am still working on book 1 of 4, and I am going to take my sweet time, just like I did for Hogwarts Castle and the UCS Millenium Falcon, and I will have the Harry Potter movies on in the background. Once I am finished I will post a full review. If you have the chance to nab this set before it sells out (if it sells out), then do it, you won't regret it. Also, here's hoping LEGO released the other half/back of the Hogwarts Castle set. As beautiful as it is, it does not deserve to be "incomplete".Play ExperienceAverage rating5out of 5 stars5.0Level of DifficultyAverage rating5out of 5 stars5.0Value for MoneyAverage rating5out of 5 stars5.0Build Time: 1 daysBuilding Experience: Expert LEGO builderWas this helpful?55Diagon Alley™
- September 3rd, 2020Average rating5out of 5 stars5.0The Start Of Something SpecialTheGreatestDane | 25-34I would recommend this to a friend!Purchased for: SelfThis is a spectacular set. I can't stop turning the shops around, and configuring them differently. Each set of shops can be considered on par with more aesthetically loved favorites from the city lines, and architecture lines. Growing up in Denmark and breathing LEGO for a living, to moving around the world, LEGO has had the Starbucks effect on me. I feel more at home with it around, than not. This set brings two of my favorite things together, and does so with consistently impressive building techniques and little winks from the past. Harry Potter, and LEGO are a symphonic harmony. Suddenly you're staring at two eyes and a smile, or perhaps hiding a wand or two underneath a staircase. Where is that chimney going!? Fun stuff. The brick count, and for a non nano-fig piece, is immense, but welcomed. I wish I wasn't through already, and had another few modulars to go. Please make more. Let's take a look at the only 2 negatives; incidentally the only 2 you'll see on forums, threads and review videos. First, the price point in conjunction with the sets modular nature. It would have been more equitable to sell it as 4 sets at 1/4th the price each; this is Diagon Alley and a licensed/themed LEGO line. Either it's a legal issue, or because the shops all go together story wise. Personally, I'm election the path towards a whole new line. There are obvious potential additions, as well as cliffhangers all over this set. From Knockturn Alley to every possible keyhole fit. Say nothing of the buildings left in Diagon Alley, we might see later. Second, the color of Quality Quiddich Supplies being far too pink...it is, and if you looked at the bricks alone you'd think you were building Honeydukes (fingers crossed). It is what it is. I like the color, but this is a display piece for me. By the time I'd finished the whole thing I liked it even more. For the positives...stunning, clever, fantastic builds, a wonderful adventure and next level work story wise from LEGO. Each space has it's own unique touch, and the stories are plentiful. I can't wait to get a light kit for it. The colors flow very well, and I think us Potterheads will have a great time determining which is our favorite, and who places which minifig where. If this is groundzero for a new line of modulars from the Harry Potter universe, count me excited. This works well with Privet Drive 4, and the Burrow and well as a Knightbus drop off. You've really outdone yourself here LEGO, and I once again wish I could strink into a minifig and jump in.Play ExperienceAverage rating5out of 5 stars5.0Level of DifficultyAverage rating4out of 5 stars4.0Value for MoneyAverage rating5out of 5 stars5.0Build Time: 1 days 2 hrsBuilding Experience: Advanced LEGO builderWas this helpful?55Diagon Alley™
- September 1st, 2020Average rating5out of 5 stars5.0Showing Harry around Diagon AlleyHagrid | 14-18I would recommend this to a friend!Purchased for: SelfHey guys Hagrid here just introduced Harry Potter to Diagon Alley. I bought this as soon as it came out and surprised that it was still available the next day. Great job by LEGO! This set is so amazingly detailed and with such well built and chosen shops. The only nitpick I have is with the little amount of minifigures for a $400 set. Anyways gotta show Harry Potter around Diagon Alley. I would definitely buy this set it if i were you. I also need to get Harry his first wand, writing supplies, books, and his owl for his birthday! Got a lot to do! Goodbye my fellow wizards! - September 2nd, 2020Average rating2out of 5 stars2.0DisappointedJaddenfly | 35-44This set has great building techniques and details but, it isn’t pleasing to the eye, the colours are jarring and the height seems to even. The street side of the set should have been ‘dustier’, more ancient but maintained. Pink, Lavender and Orange just don’t cut it AT ALL. For such an expensive set it looks more like the troll village from the Fairy line a couple years ago. (Which was great in a different scale...and with trolls). The many inside details are setting up different years of the movies. The shops are only 6 to 8 studs deep leaving room for 2D screenshots of an area of the shop. Where there is amazing details there’s not much room for characters so the action spills to the table. Where there is room for Characters there’s much less detail. LEGO would’ve been better served introducing single modular stores. They lost the opportunity to make far more money. Anyone would JUMP at the chance to add a Modular Wizarding Store to their Cities!! Priced more within reach for people to buy one at a time like the Diner or Bookstore (which most Harry Potter fans turned into a Wizarding store anyway). LEGO you have another chance to do things right with Hogsmeade. The Shrieking Shack in particular would be amazing! Zonko’s Joke Shop would be so fun, along with The Three Broomsticks!Play ExperienceAverage rating3out of 5 stars3.0Level of DifficultyAverage rating4out of 5 stars4.0Value for MoneyAverage rating3out of 5 stars3.0Building Experience: Intermediate LEGO builderWas this helpful?25Diagon Alley™
