I would recommend this to a friend!
This LEGO set was to build with my father, whom is a writer. I built it with him and really had a good time. Pros: NO MISSING PIECES/ AMAZING DESIGN/ COMPACT AND RESISTANT/ IT WORKS (what more to say?!) Cons: HARD TO BUILD (some parts are very LEGO TECHNIC-like and the typebars fit very well, but need a surgeon's precision when building)/ COMPLEX INSTRUCTIONS/ SLIGHTLY OVERPRICED Overall: Great set, amazing in every aspect (except those stated above) but only for experienced builders.Play Experience5.0Building Experience4.0Value for Money4.0Was this helpful?

Honestly, I would start by saying to take any low review with a grain of salt. This build is great and solid, the only weak point is the front under the space bar, don't pull it by that. I also would have liked a full base so you didn't see the table or surface under the keyboard, but those are minor and do not take away from the 5 stars at all. If you miss one of the steps or don't fully follow directions you can mess up something big time causing to have to back track far to fix it, but my advice on that, pay close attention to all steps. The typewriter does "work", the paper feed is tricky, mess with the angle of the mechanism behind the paper to make it work, the letter from the owner of the LEGO group is neat, maybe overkill to have 43 of them, but may have been easier than a different one per country. As you type the paper moves as does a striker and once at the end you can push it back with a satisfying clicking mechanism. Would have been perfect if they found a way to add a bell noise, but not sure how they would have accomplished that. The ribbon looks neat too. This set is going on my bookshelf and it goes great with the statue of liberty and bansai tree that I already have there. Love these sets that are easy to add to non-LEGO decore!Play Experience5.0Building Experience5.0Value for Money5.0Was this helpful?

This is the best set I have built! It is so realistic I have to tell people who complain that it does not do XXX, that it is not a real typewriter. It sounds like a real manual typewriter when you depress the keys, the roller with the paper moves as you type and you can push the roller back for the carriage return. And it looks a lot like a real typewriter. It is an interesting build and you are rewarded early on in the build by creating recognisable functions such as the keyboard, then the carriage return. I bought it for my birthday and invited people around. The only repetitive parts of the build are early on so I had my birthday guests help me build them. There are only two stickers and they are spot on. I remember rubbing my fingers over the equivalent stickers on our family typewriter when I was a teenager. I made one modification. The roller unit was too heavy and catching a bit on the studs on the base plate. I replaced the little grey wheels with the little black wheels from the blue car in the recent give away when you purchased lego. Those wheels have tyres on which lift the roller unit just enough to run smoothly. I have attached photos of my mod. In one of the photos I have the original grey wheel from the set next to the wheel I replaced it with for comparison.Play Experience5.0Building Experience5.0Value for Money5.0Was this helpful?

I would recommend this to a friend!
When I brought this, for myself, I felt elated because it represents everything about me. I learnt to type in school, and have fond memories of me and my best friend trying to beat our speed typing score with our perfectly manicured nails. Sad, but true! Typing is a skill that once you have it, you can’t lose it; kind of like riding a bike. So seeing an old fashioned typewriter was a dream come true. One thing I didn’t expect was for me to love the build so much. It’s amazing!! I say that for all of my builds, but this is on another level. I thought I would be building a shell of a typewriter, but no..Lego have taken it to another level, and I actually can say that I have build an actual working typewriter. To see the progression from shell to interior workings and outer case makes me actually feel like an inventor. Only that I didn’t invent the typewriter or the Lego typewriter, but I feel a valued member of the process. The exceptional touch with the red and black ribbon, the roller that goes back and forth, and finished with the paper that is supplied in a pad with multiple languages for you to chose to display in the finished product. Savouring the build like fine wine, it took me about 7 1/2 hours to build over a couple of days. This by far is my favourite of my ever growing LetMelLego collection. Like that well know film where Neo says ‘I can do karate’ - I say ‘I can build a typewriter!’ Highly recommended.Play Experience5.0Building Experience5.0Value for Money5.0Was this helpful?
