Safae’s approach to customer service is simple yet powerful: focus on empathy, efficiency, and understanding.
“My daily routine starts at 8am. From that moment on, my goal is to bring happiness to every consumer I speak with. Whether it’s solving a missing order, guiding them through a product enquiry, or just reassuring them that we care, I want every customer to leave the conversation feeling valued.

“We’re here to care, we’re here to empathise.”

**Going Beyond Transactions—Creating Meaningful Moments**

For Safae, the most rewarding calls are those where she can make a real impact, especially when children are involved.
“There’s nothing worse than a child eagerly waiting for their LEGO® set and then being disappointed when something goes wrong. Whether it’s a lost shipment or an unavailable set, I do everything in my power to turn that disappointment into excitement again. Sometimes, that means finding a creative solution—like offering an alternative product—to bring back the joy.”

These moments remind her why she loves what she does.


**"Understanding Customers Is More Than Just Listening"**

One of the biggest lessons Safae has learned in her role is the importance of anticipating customer needs.
“Consumers don’t always say exactly what they need. Sometimes, it’s about reading between the lines, understanding their expectations, and finding a solution before they even ask. That’s something I’ve really developed here—learning to pick up on tone, subtle hints, and the emotions behind a request.”

She credits her supportive team and leaders for helping her refine this skill over time.

**A Team That Feels Like Family**

One of the things that Safae values most about being part of the Consumer and Shopper Engagement (CSE) team, is the strong sense of camaraderie within her team.
“We always say ‘one team, one family’—and it’s not just a saying, it’s how we work. If I ever need help, I know I can turn to my colleagues or my supervisors, and they’ll support me without hesitation. That sense of teamwork makes even the most challenging days enjoyable.”

This culture of support has helped her grow both professionally and personally.


**"The emotional reward is just as important as the financial one"**

For Safae, job satisfaction comes in two forms: tangible rewards and emotional fulfilment.

“Yes, we have great performance-based rewards, and that’s motivating. But more than that, there’s an emotional reward in knowing that I’ve made a difference. When a customer says, ‘Thank you, you saved my child’s birthday!’—that’s worth more than anything.”

**Jasmin’s** journey with us has only just begun but it’s already been anything but ordinary. After joining us in UX design, her passion for research and learning led her to her current role as an **Efficacy & Insights Partner**.

“Imagine being a LEGO® Detective whose mission is to ensure every LEGO Education set is not just fun but also a powerful learning tool. Well, that's my role as part of the Efficacy & Insights team.”

Jasmin is no stranger to the LEGO Group. Her background in product development had already seen her collaborate with the LEGO Foundation. This, she believes, was the ideal preparation for this exciting new opportunity.

"It’s my job to observe how children interact with LEGO Education sets. This helps me to figure out what it is that sparks their curiosity and enables them to learn, understand and, of course, have fun. It’s fascinating really and so rewarding to see what triggers a smile as they play, build and learn."

“Armed with this evidence, I can then use it to inform the design of future LEGO Education products, ensuring they're both engaging and educational."

Jasmin is involved in shaping the very foundation of efficacy and learning research at LEGO Education.

**"The LEGO Group has been part of my life for as long as I can remember"**

“My love of LEGO bricks began long before I joined the company. I grew up in the Netherlands with three siblings, and we had this massive box of LEGO bricks. We’d build entire houses, creating little spaces for each room. Whether or not we remembered to include stairs was another story.

“This deep-rooted emotional connection makes working here feel very natural. It also helps me to understand customers more.”


**Solving problems, one brick at a time**

For Phoebe, every customer interaction is an opportunity to make someone’s day better.
“I love problem-solving. Whether it’s a missing part, a hard-to-find instruction manual, or a technical question about a complex LEGO set, I want to be the person who helps find a solution. There’s something really satisfying about taking a call where someone is frustrated and ending it with them feeling happy and supported.

“I remember one customer had an old LEGO set from the ‘80s but had lost some key pieces. They were devastated because the set had so much sentimental value. I spent time searching for solutions—finding replacement parts, tracking down old instructions, and even suggesting ways to recreate missing elements. Seeing how happy they were to rebuild their treasured set made my day.”

**Becoming a LEGO encyclopedia**

Over time, Phoebe has built an impressive knowledge of our vast product catalogue.

“Some customers just give me a vague description—‘It’s a spaceship, but not Star Wars’—and I instantly know the set number. You start to recognise patterns, and certain products just stick in your mind. It’s fun when you can instantly help someone based on memory alone.

“For me, what sets our customer service apart is the genuine relationships we build through each conversation. It’s not just about answering questions. It’s about making people feel heard. Sometimes, you recognise a customer’s name from a previous call, and that little moment of familiarity makes a huge difference. They feel valued and part of the LEGO fan community.”

That personal touch is something Phoebe strives to bring to every interaction.


**Collaborating to build ‘joy’**

Phoebe also credits her team’s support and knowledge-sharing culture as a key part of her success.

“We have an amazing system of sharing insights. If I learn something new—like a workaround for a common issue—I share it with my colleagues, so we all get better together. It means we’re always improving and providing the best experience possible.”

“When you work here, you realise LEGO bricks are more than just a toy—they’re part of people’s childhoods, their creativity, their family traditions. Helping someone reconnect with that joy, even in a small way, is what makes my role so special.”

**Rasmus** is passionate about helping people work together in a playful way. He does so by designing internal systems that are both functional and enjoyable to use. His creative, innovative approach takes a child’s eye view to tackling a range of complex challenges.

“When I was studying, I dreamt of working at the LEGO Group. I even bought my house because it was within reasonable travelling distance to the LEGO® Campus in Billund. Fortunately, the dream became a reality and now I make cool stuff for the internet that helps my colleagues work together in a more playful way. My role is all about minimising complexity and maximising empowerment."

“As a designer, I’m comfortable with projects that require creativity and innovation. It’s down to me to develop experience and product visions for the future while working alongside a range of internal teams. Our starting point is always to create the best-case scenario. Then we just push the boundaries of what we thought we could achieve and see where we end up. This can be an exciting journey."

“Saving time and money while making work more fun is a fulfilling way to spend a working day. My project to save thousands of colleagues one minute per day started out as drawing boards. In my first two weeks with the business, it caught the attention of senior managers. That was a defining career moment. It’s great to know that I’m creating solutions that enable colleagues to focus on our core mission of inspiring and developing the builders of tomorrow.”

"My closest colleagues and people leaders acknowledge me for who I am and how I feel. That empowers me to do things with much greater confidence. The business has also been incredibly supportive from a wellbeing perspective. My people leader, for instance, identified when I needed mental health support and, since then, I’ve been fully supported by a social advisor and external psychologist. This has helped me become better at work and most importantly a greater dad and husband when I get home."

"I learn the most from my interactions with the highly skilled people around me. I also try to keep a playful mindset in everything I do - whether it’s to create new playful methods for workshops or rethinking usability with this in mind. A great example of this was when I resolved a month-long discussion by designing a landing page inspired by children's drawings. Simple is best."

How can playful design solutions create a better workplace? 🪄 Meet Rasmus.

How can playful design solutions create a better workplace?

Creativity and imagination are the driving force behind everything we do. For **Associate Creative Director**, **Jon**, this means channelling the spirit of our brand into content that connects with our customers and inspires curious minds. 

“It all starts with the product. When we get a new LEGO® set, it’s our job to show people what’s great about it. This means crafting scripts and storyboards and collaborating with filmmakers to create adverts that capture people’s imagination. Everything is rooted in play, so we get to know what we’re selling inside out. We have to invest in this hands-on approach to explore the story for ourselves. That’s how we find the best way to tell it.”

“The entire creative process is rooted in playfulness. We like to think we’re very important but really, we’re just playing.” 

It’s this mindset that allows Jon and his team to explore new ideas and experiment with the storytelling possibilities.

“Every month, we have a thing called ‘Fabulab Friday’. It’s a day dedicated to exploring new ideas, visiting galleries, or working on wildcard projects. This enables us to step outside our usual tasks and find inspiration in the world around us. We’ve gone to places like the V&A Museum of Childhood and even Comic Con. That was amazing. We all got dressed up and properly immersed in the fan experience.”

Being open to new experiences has also fuelled John’s personal projects. 

“I love illustrating and I’ve been trying to write my own books. The Fabulab days give me the chance to work on stuff like this. It’s this blend of professional and personal growth that keeps me engaged and excited about what I do.”

“Collaboration is key too. What we do as a team involves so many different disciplines. From producers and illustrators to filmmakers and designers, every project is a joint effort. But this spirit of creativity and openness runs through the entire business. Even in departments like procurement or finance, you can see there’s a sincere openness to ideas and playful teamwork.”

One of the most rewarding aspects of his job is the opportunity to collaborate directly with the people who design the LEGO sets. But understanding what inspires LEGO fans is also important.

“Being able to talk to the designers who create the products we’re promoting is really important. This allows us to remain true to their creative vision and stay aligned with the core values of the brand and purpose of the product.”

“Children have an incredible ability to surprise you with their approach. I get to see this from the front-row seat my work gives me. How children play with the bricks and how they bring the system to life is what ultimately drives innovation. You could ask 20 children to build something, and you’ll get 20 completely different answers. They are so authentically creative. This is what we strive to capture in our campaigns.”

Innovation is what keeps our products relevant. For Jon, the fact that there are endless ways for the simple LEGO brick to evolve is inspiring.

“Every year, what that little brick can do is completely blown out of the water. From ground-breaking digital experiences like LEGO Fortnite to more traditional, hands-on play experiences, the potential of the LEGO system seems limitless. We’re constantly uncovering new and exciting ways to use the brick.”

Ultimately, Jon believes that the LEGO Group’s success lies in its mission to unlock the potential in every child. 

“There’s a fundamental belief that we have something here that can help people, whether it’s unlocking creativity or improving well-being. From sustainability initiatives to inclusive products like Braille Bricks, the LEGO Group is committed to making a positive impact on the world. How do you engage the builders of the future wherever and whoever they are? 👀 Meet Jon.

How do you engage the builders of the future?

When you find a LEGO® set online, the chances are it’s thanks to **David** and his team. Together, they make sure our products not only look great but connect with the people they’re made for. And that could be pretty much anyone.

“My job title is **Vice President, Global B2B eCommerce**. How I’d describe this is making sure mum, dad, nanny, grandpa, friends, family - whoever - can find our products on the internet. I lead a team of 40 people, all of whom are big contributors to our success. Our impact is, quite simply, making sure our products look amazing online.”

David and his team sit across three offices based in Boston, Toronto and Mexico City. Between them they serve a diverse set of markets across the Americas. But his own LEGO journey began on the other side of the Atlantic.


“I joined the LEGO Group in London in 2015. Since then I have had various roles. Starting out, I was in strategy before transitioning to commercial general management. Over time, I‘ve been able to see many of our markets globally. I have travelled to all our Hub locations. I’ve met many amazing and dedicated colleagues and partners.”

“Moving to the US in 2018 was a big adventure for me. It was very exciting and has enabled me to continue on my development path.”

“I have been supported in many ways, but the biggest impact has been my leaders. We have some fantastic ones at the LEGO Group. They’re always looking for ways to mentor, to guide and to support the growth of anyone and everyone that comes here.”

So what brought David here?

“I always wanted to work for a mission driven organisation. I was really impressed by the culture, and the commitment to the mission of reaching children with wonderful play experiences. I also loved that colleagues are at the heart of the organisation, and everybody is encouraged to be themselves. The reality has exceeded my expectations.”

‘Test and learn’ is something David sets a lot of store by in his eCommerce leadership role.

“We do this a lot. I guess it’s a reflection of play in the workplace. It could be something as small as selecting the most effective image to describe a product, or a much larger test related to marketing choices. We’re always innovating, and this approach helps us to do so in an informed way.

“I guess it’s a reflection of play being extremely important here. It isn't just in my role; it is important to my team and to wider organisation. Our mission is driven by the concept of play. It supports creativity and everything we do from a test and learn perspective too. The mindset of creativity and experimentation are very important.” 

“I get immense satisfaction from what I do. An eCommerce project I worked on, in 2017, really changed how we worked to best serve our shoppers. Seeing this come to life and drive impact globally was amazing.”

David’s journey at the LEGO Group has clearly been a fulfilling one. It is something he feels sure will continue and he knows precisely why.

“Just imagine reaching and inspiring the next generation of LEGO builders with amazing play experiences, that support their development, and prepare them to succeed in a world where experimentation and play are critical to success. How’s that for a reason?”

What’s it like to work somewhere play time is never over?

As **Finance Director for Global Stores**, **Mazen** plays a key role in bringing the magic to life for fans worldwide. For more than eight years, Mazen has been contributing to the success of the LEGO Group, with the last 1.5 years focused on making vital financial decisions that help shape the future of our stores.
   
“I work with people to ensure that we get to open more stores so that children can play even more with LEGO® bricks. 

Mazen’s work is focused on analysing the performance of existing LEGO stores and using data to guide decisions on where new stores should open.

"I look at everything related to how stores are performing. The key question I ask myself is what we can learn to do better. This analysis helps me, and my team identify success patterns from top-performing stores and apply those lessons to others. We’re able to learn a lot from this. Where should we open the next store? What should it look like? What are the different bricks that go into the model that will make that store work? It’s all there in the numbers.”

Every new store is built on this recipe of considerations, from the physical layout and customer flow to staffing and cost projections. 

"We want to make the store an opportunity for people to interact with LEGO products, see amazing 3D models, and experience the magic of the LEGO Group. My team and I work closely with the retail division to ensure each store is designed to engage visitors and create memorable experiences, while keeping a close eye on costs to ensure profitability.”

Innovation plays a central role in Mazen’s work, not only in terms of technology but also in rethinking processes.

"For me, innovation is twofold: one, what are the new tools out there that can help me, and my team do a better job? And two, how do we reassess the way we do things to see if we can do them differently? Embracing new tools allows us to do so much, whether it’s streamlining data visualisation and governance or making our decision-making processes faster and more reliable.”

Beyond tools and technology, Mazen is constantly challenging the status quo. 

"We might be looking at why we invest a certain amount in lighting or shelves, or why we structure lease contracts a certain way. I’m always asking, why do we do it like this? Can it be different?”

“Take traditional lease agreements as a case in point. Analysing everything from risk mitigation to financial structuring makes all the difference. Our goal is to ensure that contracts are flexible, scalable, and sustainable as the company grows globally. There’s a lot to consider. But the challenge is a big part of why I turn up for work every day.” 

"What I really like about being here is how collaborative colleagues are. There’s always an assumption of best intent. Each country might have a different way of doing things but, in the end, it all boils down to taking best practices and making it fit. It’s much like the System in Play. If it fits it, it works. That’s what matters.”

In his role as a **Software Engineer**, **Peder** helps put the fun into the LEGO® Building Instructions. It’s his job to enable curious minds to experience the joy of play through collaboration.

“Day-to-day, I work on Build Together, a feature that transforms building LEGO sets from a solo activity into a shared experience. We provide the tools for families and friends to connect through building.”

“I joined the Build Together team just as they started transforming it from a small experiment into a fully supported experience. It's been amazing to help shape the project from a technical standpoint and see it grow.”

“My work goes beyond coding. As engineers, we participate in user tests and brainstorm with designers. The entire team values diverse perspectives and knowledge because we know it leads to a better product.”

Peder came to us via a love of LEGO sets.

“I have fond childhood memories of building with Technic LEGO. Figuring out how things worked and creating my own functional "machines" made me feel like an engineer.”

“My dream of working at the LEGO Group evolved over time. As a kid, I wanted to build models for a living. Later, I became interested in tech and dreamed of working on LEGO games. Now, I'm close to doing just that.”

“The idea of working for a company that brought me so much joy felt natural. I was also finishing my Master’s in Software Engineering and wanted a break from theoretical learning. A job at the LEGO Group seemed like the perfect opportunity.”

“The reality of working here has exceeded my expectations. I heard about the playful atmosphere, but as a student, I doubted it. I quickly learned that adults could have fun at work.”


With the support of the team and the trust of the wider business, Peder has thrived on tackling challenging tasks. 

“This was true even as a new graduate. It’s allowed me to explore and learn. The team's natural curiosity and trust in each other creates an ideal learning environment. My biggest challenge is speaking up in broader forums. That's partly why I joined the ambassador programme, to push myself.”

“As a team, we tackle a variety of problems, from technical to UX. Early in our refactor, we focused on sharing architecture with the solo builder experience. As Build Together grew, this became a limitation. I proposed a rework and was trusted to implement it, even as an Associate Engineer. It was a success, and such experiences build great momentum.”

So what does working here mean for Peder’s own development?

“I'm empowered to be brave and curious, to strive for knowledge even if I might fail. There’s also a great work-life balance with flexible options, while my team is excellent at checking in on each other and sharing the workload.”

“Beyond courses and colleagues, the shared value of curiosity is key. It empowers me to say, "I don't know this, but I can learn it," instead of shying away from challenges. I learn best by exploring and getting hands-on. My team tackles the right problems at the right time, creating a pragmatic development process.”


Ultimately, Peder's work is about engaging our fans in exploring through building.

“We once had a "sky's the limit" workshop where we embraced the "Brave" mindset and explored wild ideas. It was a day of prototyping, chatting, and learning. While none of our creations made it directly into the product, we still draw inspiration from that day.”

As one of our **Talent Acquisition Managers**, **Lissa** is driven by her passion for people and belief in the power of play. With over five years' experience with us, she plays a crucial role in welcoming new colleagues to the business collaborative work environment. 

“I’m part of the welcome committee for our fabulous new hires. It’s my job to roll out the red carpet and make sure our new joiners have the best experience from day one. Our culture is one of the best and I want to ensure everyone is excited to begin their journey of learning, building, growing and having fun.” 

Lissa works alongside colleagues in Boston and Mexico and is inspired by meeting and developing people from all around the world.

“It's so cool to meet people from diverse cultures and learn about their traditions. I’m often asked to lead training sessions for our team and occasionally to facilitate company-wide initiatives such as Purpose to Impact or Leadership Playground sessions. I find it rewarding to witness those 'aha!' moments and see people grow.” 

Lissa began her career in recruitment which enabled her to hone her skills in talent acquisition and relationship building.   

“Over time, I’ve expanded my expertise to include facilitating training sessions, project management, optimising processes and contributing to strategic initiatives. I’ve also had opportunities to collaborate on global projects but most of all, I am continuously learning.” 

“Throughout my career here, I’ve been fortunate to have had exceptional leaders who not only provided me support and guidance but also placed their trust and faith in me. Their belief in my abilities empowered me to be brave, push my boundaries and achieve milestones. Their confidence in me fuelled my motivation to continue to grow.” 

“In terms of my role, it’s enabled me to proactively identify inefficiencies within our processes and implement solutions that drive efficiency across our team.”

“As for play, if you don't play, how will you learn? Taking on a playful mindset has allowed me to make some mistakes that turned into lessons learned. When I play, I am having fun.  When I am having fun, I am more productive. When I am productive, I am succeeding.”
