I love how the designer has small secrets sprinkled throughout as you build as it helps unravel the mystery of the story behind the set itself. First, you find the newspaper on the stand talking about a donut thief, then you build the 2nd story where the police station has donuts lying on the table next to the mug shot station, the apartment has a secret door that leads to the donut shop, then the 3rd story with an evidence locker chockful of items pointing to the crime, then a bird with a stolen donut on the window ledge! Who truly is the thief? Did the news stand owner commit the crime to sell papers? Is he the apartment owner above the donut shop with the secret door? Or is it the bird stealing the donuts? That's what I absolutely love, the story seems to come alive all throughout the entire build and truly sucked me into the experience and I haven't even begun discussing the building itself! The aesthetics are reminiscent of 1930s Americana with a hint of Art Deco architectural styling. the side buildings are a bit small, but I'm glad they opened up the donut shop inside to allow more space for displaying all those incredible sweets. The only boring part was stacking brick upon brick to the sides and back walls just because there's no styling to them. I know it's for good reason, as these sets are designed to be placed next to each and would cover the sides anyway, but that was my only complaint. I am very, very happy with this set and plan to look for more modular sets to add to my new collection. Well done LEGO, well done.Byggeerfaring: Avanceret LEGO byggerVar dette nyttigt?55Politistation
- April 4th, 2021Average rating5out of 5 stars5.0LEGO Street Bluescnw1385 | 65 eller overJeg vil anbefale denne til en ven!The deeper I got into this project, the more impressed I was at the forethought that went into the interior layout of the "cop shop." Citizens walk into the ground floor to file reports with the desk sergeant. Second floor is where officers write reports or follow up with victims and/or witnesses using the manual typewriter and rotary phone. The alcove for taking mug shots is ingenious. (My only criticism, and it's a minor one, is the lack of a Detective minifigure) Third floor is the admin level: precinct commander's office and private washroom. I smiled a little upon seeing both the washroom and holding cell downstairs come with toilets, which I believe is a first for LEGO. The location of the evidence locker across from the captain's office is entirely logical in that she's able to monitor the comings and goings of her officers. I didn't understand the purpose for the twin "plaques" at the top of the stairway until I attached the small shields and intuited they were memorials for officers who lost their lives in the line of duty. A nice, poignant touch from my perspective as a retired police officer. So many wonderful details: the evidence in the property lockers; the phonograph/radio combo and small kitchen in the apartment over the doughnut shop; the bluebird with his trophy doughnut on the window ledge. I found assembly a bit of a challenge at times, but the finished product is well worth the investment of time and energy. On a closing note, I added minifigures to the rooftop: Commissioner and Barbara Gordon, the latter with her handheld Bat Signal, two Gotham cops and the Dark Knight of course. I imagine them conferring post-midnight about the latest depredations of the Joker.Byggeerfaring: Mellemgod LEGO byggerVar dette nyttigt?55Politistation
- January 15th, 2021Average rating5out of 5 stars5.0Fantasticbenthelegofan | 14-18Jeg vil anbefale denne til en ven!I currently own three modulars, the downtown diner the corner garage and this newest one, the police station, the diner was a great introduction, and I was instantly hooked on thee series, next was the corner garage and while the exterior is nice, I found the interior slightly lacklustre. This one however is amazing on both fronts, the exterior is simple to put together yet very nice to look at, and the interior has all the necessary details a police station needs. It’s height in comparison to recent modulars js also impressive. The mini figures are fantastic, the new police torso print is super vintage and cool. One of my favourite details has got to be the soap and suds billboard. all my issues with this set are purely nitpicks regardless, here they are: lavender is a little bright for me, it bothers me less in person but I really would’ve loved to see sand blue An extra minifigure or a vintage police car would’ve been a welcome inclusion The apartment interior is fine, but nothing more The box is, to put it simply, terrible, I am a fan of the 18+ style black box but it does not work for the modular series (I did enjoy the instructions though) Like I said these are nitpicks, I gave this set a 5 sta- brick rating? I’m not sure, really loved itByggeerfaring: Avanceret LEGO byggerVar dette nyttigt?55Politistation
- January 28th, 2021Average rating4out of 5 stars4.0Great set let down by poor instructionsCorporalSuperPumpkin | 25-34Jeg vil anbefale denne til en ven!Like every other AFOL, I spend the months of February-December wondering what next year's modular will be. They are all usually day one purchases and this was no different. The build is great, really cool techniques and the 6x6 printed billboard tiles are absolutely gorgeous. But the instructions are absolutely awful. Since the introduction of the 18+ line, all sets with that branding have had their instructions printed on black backgrounds. Has someone at marketing told the design team this looks "pro" or something? It's a massive own goal that is making me think twice about buying sets. Dark mode on screens are great - screens emit light, so it makes sense to tone bright colours down. Paper does not emit light, it reflects and absorbs it. And black paper reflects it in ways that make the content hard to see. Dark brown/dark blue pieces are virtually indistinguishable. As a designer, LEGO instructions have long been a bastion of "good design". They communicate effectively, across languages and age groups, without the need for words. This is such a massive step backwards and it is really hard to understand how it was signed off. There is also the weird decision to use white backgrounds for some callout boxes. This means on the same page you have the same elements presented on either solid white or solid black. Parts appear different depending on their background. Worse still, the PDF version of the instructions is also black. Please, please do something about this. Lots of people are struggling!Byggeerfaring: Ekspert LEGO byggerVar dette nyttigt?45Politistation
