Plastic bucket (large enough to be a helmet and soft enough to cut through)
Black permanent marker
Step 1: Use heavy-duty scissors to remove the plastic bucket’s handles.
Step 2: Use a black permanent marker to draw a rounded rectangular shape on the outside of the bucket. The dimensions should be roughly 10in wide by 7in tall (25cm x 18cm). This will be the helmet opening.
Step 3: Place a cutting mat down to protect your workspace, and then use a craft knife to cut out the flat sides of the rectangle. Cut the rounded edges using scissors.
Step 4: Wrap the bucket in strips of tin foil.
Step 5: Glue each of the tin foil strips down at the top and bottom. Allow to dry.
Step 6: Find the face opening and cut an X shape into the tin foil. Push the foil back under the edges of the opening and secure with glue. Allow to dry.
Step 7: You have lift-off!
Top tip: For an even thriftier option, use a cardboard box instead of a bucket.
