“I never grew up with LEGO® bricks. This was something I learned to love when I was an adult watching the LEGO movie. I’m glad that I did. Now I understand why grown adults can justify to the their partners owning our Millenium Falcon. It’s because it’s just mind-blowingly cool.”

It’s this kind of passion that Beau brings to his work here.

“I guess I’m just really lucky. I get to make stuff that (hopefully) makes folks smile. Our goal is pretty simple: to get you people as excited about LEGO products as we are! It’s about always trying to tap into that inner child, that sense of wonder and playfulness that makes the LEGO experience so special."

“I’m still a kid at heart. So that helps. I’ve spent longer here than at any other place in my career. And the opportunity just landed in my lap. Since then, I’ve climbed the ranks from brand strategist to brand strategy director.”

Being able to be himself is something that Beau sets a lot of store by. Why is this, we ask, and how does it inspire him?

“I think it’s rare for a large organisation to tell you to bring your whole self to work - and actually mean it. Not only that, but actively encourage it too. It’s a smart move really. It all ties into the spirit of play."

"We all need more play in our lives. If we don’t have it, we just end up becoming boring, cynical adults. We actually get to have a work-life balance too. It's all about keeping that spark of play alive, both in our work and in our lives."

“Besides, to come up with ideas you want to play with yourself, you have to actually be playful yourself. This is when you do the stuff you’re most proud of.”


Can he share some of these highlights with us?

“Oh sure. Anything that helps curious minds discover our amazing products is an achievement, I think."

“One of my proudest moments was launching LEGO VIDIYO. In case you’re not familiar, it’s a product that enables children to create their own music videos and dance clips using a range of LEGO sets. There’s an app that goes with it too. So it’s a great way to explore creativity."

“Coming up with the strategy and bringing the campaign to life was a real thrill. I also came up with the initial foundation for the LEGO Space campaign. It was pretty special to see that blossom."

With all this said, we imagine it must be hard for Beau to pin down what he likes best about being here.

“Listen, my job is awesome. Working here is a blast. We have an amazing team, a playful atmosphere, and the freedom to be ourselves. Plus, we get to play with toys all day. Who wouldn’t love that."

“But most of all, listening to children is just so refreshing. I learn from my colleagues too, here in the LEGO Agency, of course. With young, curious minds, it’s different somehow. They teach me something new every single time. Finding the energy to keep pace with their thinking keeps me on my toes. That’s why I’m here.”

**Fernanda's** journey began with a childhood love for LEGO® bricks. Today, she brings this passion to her work creating a whole new world of play experiences. 

“When I moved to Denmark with my family, I dreamt of working at the LEGO Group. While it seemed like a long shot given my background in computer science, when I applied, I got the job! Ever since, I've been immersed in this amazing world where creativity and technology intersect.

“My job is all about teaching computers to learn, much like kids learn through play. I create algorithms that help computers recognise patterns and make predictions based on data. This technology might sound complex, but you interact with it every day. It's how your phone recognises your face or how online stores recommend products you might like.” 

Fernanda uses this same technology in her work every day. Can she tell us more about what this involves?

“I've helped launch products where we used Machine Learning and Augmented Reality to bring LEGO creations to life. Right now, I'm working on some exciting new projects that will create even more imaginative and interactive play experiences.

“My role has evolved over time, and thanks to the support of my colleagues and leaders, I've been able to focus on projects that truly ignite my passion. One of the most rewarding aspects of my job is the freedom I have to propose new ideas and experiment with different approaches. It's incredibly exciting to see those ideas come to life in products that kids and families around the world enjoy.”

In this new and ever-evolving area of technology, Fernanda is very clear about how to make the most of it:

“The secret ingredient to our success lies in maintaining a playful mindset. We approach our work with curiosity, creativity, and a whole lot of fun. By actively playing with and testing our own products, we gain valuable insights that help us understand what resonates with kids.

“Of course, we also learn a great deal by observing how kids play. Their boundless imagination and creativity are a constant source of inspiration for us. By understanding their play patterns and preferences, we can create experiences that spark their curiosity and keep them engaged.”

“The most fulfilling moments come when I see the impact of our work firsthand. When a child's face lights up with joy as they interact with a LEGO creation that I helped bring to life, it reminds me why I love what I do.

“My role is to bring you fun and creative moments!” says **Eiko Konishi**, who is **Marketing Director** at **LEGO Japan**.

“I’ve been in the LEGO Group for 10 years and I get inspired by my colleagues and find something new in my work every day. I have the most fun at work when I’m chatting with colleagues and discussing new ideas. I never get bored!

“My most interesting project was bringing LEGO Masters to Japan. The program launch was a proud moment, but collaborating and delivering it as a team was the most valuable thing. 

“I’ve worked in both the sales and marketing teams. I’ve never seen a company that cares so much about wellbeing and work/life balance. All the People Leaders I’ve worked with here have supported me and helped me challenge myself and widen my experience of the job.

“My purpose is to reach out to as many children as possible and give them a chance to experience learning through play. It’s a wonderful job. Play can create space in your heart and give you new perspectives and ideas in your daily life. It’s so important for everyone to remember the value of play, especially when you have a busy life.”


**Millie Asami Miyashita** describes her job as **Digital Marketing Manager** as “finding ways to make digital life even more fun and inspiring!"

“Every single project I work on is exciting - from composing a social media post to being a lead on a branding campaign. Everything we do is connected to our mission to inspire and develop the builders of tomorrow. I love it when I see a social media post inspired by our campaign message. It makes me happy that someone had a memorable play experience. I love seeing the great big smiles of consumers when they’re playing with LEGO bricks! 

"I have worked here for three years and one of the great things is the support for development. Every employee gets to decide their own career vision. We have lots of opportunities to discuss and learn about the development process, including eLearning courses, on-site workshops and dialogue sessions with the leadership team.

“The most important thing I learned is that the things we value at work – curiosity, bravery and focus – are encouraged and applied to every single task. When I first started, I felt a little awkward about receiving feedback, but I changed how I thought about it and realized that getting advice from different points of view only helps projects get even better.

“My role is communicating directly with our audience, so the spirit of play is super important. I’m always looking for ways to find playful communication rather than just giving people information. The digital platform is always evolving, so I need to stay engaged and keep trying new things. It’s fun and it’s helped me become a person who isn’t afraid of change.”

**Yuka Matsuzawa** knows that working for the LEGO Group is the dream for a lot of people. “My daughter's friend wants to be a LEGO employee because she loves LEGO sets."

“I’m the **Order Manager** and I’ve worked for the LEGO Group for five years.” she explains. “I really like the culture here; cooperation is essential. The last company I worked at was very conservative and it wasn't an environment where I could take on challenges. I looked at the LEGO Group and I really liked the way that people are given a chance and listened to if they speak up, so I applied here. In my last company the dress code was very strict, but in my team, we have fun dress codes for our team meetings like wearing animal prints or clothes that don’t fit you!

"What’s Yuka’s favourite work memory? “I really enjoyed my work as part of the project to improve the percentage of products in Amazon that were Retail Out of Stock (ROOS), which was affecting our customer pulse scores. My role was to investigate, analyse and come up with solutions. As a result, the number of products out of stock went down and customer satisfaction went up. 

“My job always gives me and my team new challenges. I believe in 'learning through play’. LEGO bricks aren’t just bricks, they are an unlimited play tool. When employees experience the fun of the product then we can let the rest of the world know how exciting it is. The Santa’s Helper initiative is wonderful. When I see big smiles from children and adults and get a big thank you from them, I really feel that's why I'm here.”

“The LEGO Group prioritizes children’s growth and that deeply resonates with me,” says **Hiroki Furukawa**. “I wanted to contribute to children’s futures.”

“I’m a **Senior Key Account Manager** and role is to make sure that as many children as possible can find LEGO sets in stores! We work with retailers to create exciting sales spaces. We collaborate with partners to plan for the future to make sure that lots of retail companies can grow alongside the LEGO Group. We spread smiles across Japan, which has such a positive impact on my life! 

“I have realized the importance of collaboration beyond my direct responsibilities. I’ve been working on creating safe spaces for teamwork and growth. A playful workplace means prioritizing a creative approach and valuing failure. This creates an environment where employees can work joyfully and can infuse innovation and creativity into our daily work. 

“I have over 18 years of experience in the toy industry. Our team members come from diverse backgrounds — some have been with the LEGO Group for over 25 years, while others joined from entirely different industries. It’s amazing how these varied experiences come together in our current team, creating fascinating chemistry. 

“One of the most rewarding experiences for me was contributing to the growth of a team member. Witnessing their joy and tears when they were promoted was truly heartwarming. Working alongside them also helped me grow personally.”

Johnny and Frank both work in very different roles. But when we ask them to describe what they like most about working here, a compelling story begins to take shape. 

Let’s start with Johnny who works at LEGO® China Digital:

"I think the biggest difference in working at the LEGO Group is the unspoken understanding between colleagues. We all think about ways to make the best of things. We don’t say that the project only has this time, so maybe we can only do it here. We don’t say that I have finished this link, and it will not be my business until the next link."

There’s a lot to take away from Johnny’s observations. Firstly, they speak to our strong belief in the power of collaboration. This is rooted deep in our culture as a business. 
We are not the usual kind of company. As passionate advocates for the transformative power of play, it makes sense that we practice the principles that make play a positive and useful tool for exploring the possibilities. 

Play at its best involves everyone engaging and supporting one another. It’s the exact same thing with how we approach our work.

It’s this flexible approach and willingness to experiment that allows us to be more creative and find unexpected solutions. It’s also makes working here more varied and fun. And when we have fun, we enjoy ourselves more and have a very real desire to create something that surprises, delights and engages our customers.

This is something Frank strongly identifies within his role in the Packing Maintenance department:

"We all want to do everything to a high standard and bring the best experience to our users. I think the great thing about the LEGO Group is not only that it creates a lot of fun toys, but we also deliver great value."

This shows us that how we approach things is every bit as important as what we create. It’s something that translates into the end product because it’s been there at key stages of its creation and there is a shared ownership - a sense of duty almost - of customer loyalty. 

They expect something that takes them that little bit further, so we have to map out the best, most satisfying way to get there.

There has to be a high-degree of collaboration to drive what we do.
Our commitment to pushing boundaries and exceeding expectations is all there in our core values.

It's not just about creating fun toys; it's about fostering a culture where employees are empowered to go above and beyond, both in their work and in their communities. This is exemplified by Frank’s experience of volunteering at the Jiaxing Science and Technology Museum:

"I volunteered at the Jiaxing Science and Technology Museum. I explained to the children who came to see us that the earth is sick now because some people litter and cut down trees. 

I didn’t expect this to inspire my my son. He remembers what I said, so when he saw others littering outside, he would try to dissuade them from doing so. I felt very proud of him for this. It also made me realize that what we do can change behaviours and influence better outcomes.”

**Jeremy Lim** is a **Demand Planning Manager** in our **New Zealand** office. He believes there’s much more to his role than meets the eye - and that’s true for everyone that works here:

“Just Imagine being part of something bigger in your life, where you get to inspire and develop the builders of tomorrow - one brick at a time. That’s what working here has felt like to me - and that feels pretty good.

“One of the things I love about the LEGO Group is you don’t have to be perfect. Nobody expects you to know everything about every single aspect of what your role is about. The fun is in having to find out and explore. That’s the essential nature of play, right? Working with people you just know are always going to be there to support you matters too. 

“We’re a very sharing organisation. We’re like a village. We have input into how the business does things and how we can do better at what we do. Having all these perspectives is a win-win. We learn and grow as individuals, which makes us stronger as a business. 

“Before working here, my dream career would have been a role as a Lecturer or a Student Counsellor. This aligns with my passion for education and helping others. But I get to do that here and it gives me huge satisfaction. I coach, train, and support new team members all the time and having a positive impact on their growth and development is super-important to me. 

“We’re a business that’s driven by innovation, so you have to keep learning and listening. There's always someone out there who has faced a similar problem and discovered a solution. It's then a matter of adapting that solution, understanding its impact, and identifying any barriers that may hinder our progress - which I guess really feeds into play.

“For me, play is about experimentation and it’s through experimentation that I’ve learnt the most and developed my own independent thoughts. That’s why it’s so important for the people who come to work for us to be curious problem solvers. People who like to find out. People who want to do so to achieve something important. 

“Another thing to emphasise is the degree to which we all feel trusted. This is empowering, In my case it means having the freedom to make the decisions that I believe are best for the market or my role. We have a strong bond as a team; we’re ready to go the extra mile for one another. That makes me proud to work here.

“All of this has now been formally recognised. Both the LEGO Group and the Australia and New Zealand offices have been officially accredited Great Places To Work. It’s true, they are. That’s why I’m still here almost a decade after joining. But having this formally recognised by the accreditation, that means a lot. To all of us. It’s validating. It makes me feel as though we’ve built something important, together.”

“Doing things that haven’t been done before comes very easily to my colleagues here. Many organisations struggle with innovation, but here I see that for my colleagues it’s the most natural thing. There’s creativity in action every day. That we’re here to do new things, whatever shape they may eventually take – a product, an experience or a marketing campaign.

Having worked here now for over two years, I’ve had the chance to closely observe the many many tools it takes to build a successful brand with this kind of longevity. “I’m part of the **Global Brand Development** team working on long-range strategic narratives and marketing plans for the LEGO® brand alongside key transformation projects.

“Leading the brand communication strategy for our 90th-anniversary campaign was incredible. Particularly because of the impact it had and also because it stretched in many wonderful ways across every part of the brand experience. It was also such a huge privilege to be able to celebrate a brand of such stature while charting a path for its future. It’s not every day that you get to do this kind of work.

“Becoming a mother 9 years ago shaped how I saw the world – it showed me the very same every day things but from my incredibly creative, curious and fearless son’s lens. He asks the best questions and leaves me with the most impressive answers. At the LEGO Group everything we do is with children in mind. Learning from children and how they see the world teaches me the most. Here at the LEGO Group we always say ‘Children are our role models’ and it shows up in our work every single day. Getting to hear their thoughts on what we do and on the world around them is a constant source of inspiration. I absolutely love every chance I get to ask children questions and see how they play. It’s near impossible to inspire and develop the builders of tomorrow without playing and having fun ourselves.

“I got to attend my very first ‘Play Day’ last year. I’d never experienced anything quite like it! Imagine playing all day with your colleagues, watching everyone hop, skip and build shoulder-to-shoulder. It served as a reminder of the joy and value of play – and as grown ups it’s a reminder we need often. Play Day is one of the most meaningful traditions in the company that stems from our values, that we hold so dearly. In our team meetings we always make room for play. Even our meeting rooms have play prompts, because how can we possibly get to incredible things unless we start with play. 

“One of the most rewarding things about my job is that I get to create new things with teams from very diverse areas of expertise. A typical day can include working with the LEGO Foundation, LEGO House,  LEGOLAND, LEGO Education, design teams, content teams and more. I can’t think of a job where you get to build alongside such incredible talent and share in the responsibility of building such an iconic brand. Everyone here wants to do their life’s best work. When you’re working to build on a brand that’s so strong and successful, you have to strive even harder to make a difference and leave a legacy through your work. 

“We’re doing our best to inspire and develop the builders of tomorrow. That’s a really valuable mission. One that made it very easy for me to make the decision to move to a new continent with my family in tow. And it’s a decision I’d make again in a heartbeat."

In her role, **Abier** sees a genuine purpose in what we do. Just imagine knowing what you do has a big impact on children's development as they grow up. As a parent, this takes on a much greater significance and adds to the sense of being part of a wider family.

“Being a parent, I know how important play is for children and their development. It takes them on a learning journey. So, for me, working here is very purpose-driven. It brings a whole new level of meaning to what I do. We want to make change possible for children all over the world. A positive change that impacts them in a useful way and helps them thrive in life. Not only as children, but also when they grow older. 

“I’ve been here now for four and a half years. Initially, I was the Marketing Manager Lead for LEGO® Monkie Kid and Chinese Traditional Festival but I’ve just stepped up to take on a new role as **Senior Marketing Manager** for LEGO® Star Wars™. From the moment I joined, it struck me just how open, inclusive, and diverse a culture there is. It welcomes everyone no matter their ethnicity. It doesn’t really matter where you are from, or what you have done previously. As soon as you are invited into the LEGO team, you feel at home immediately. Maybe it’s because we’re a family–owned business, I don’t know. It could be because we care about what we do, so we care about one another.

“This sense of caring extends to our personal development. This, I think, has been my proudest achievement.
It’s been such a steep learning curve for me. But I’ve been enabled by strong leaders along the way. From day one, I’ve been encouraged to be curious and to take on new challenges and more responsibility. The fact that I’m currently in a position where I can help drive and influence our LEGO Acceleration Strategy in China, is a great achievement for me. Being part of this, working alongside my colleagues, has given me so many learning opportunities. 


“The business is also driven by a philosophy that only the best is good enough. In my day-to-day role, I feel that I’m able to live that by making LEGO play more available to more children out there in the world, particularly in China and the wider Asian community across the globe.

“Working in a market like China can be challenging but this is also a learning opportunity. It’s made me realise that children are so different. It’s true they all play, but they play differently. And what matters to one child, might not matter to another. Here, we’ve translated the LEGO core experience into play that is culturally relevant, exciting, fun and cool. This way, they are willing to play out the stories, because it matters to them. 

“Being a western brand, creating sets based on 500-plus-year-old legends, I think, shows bravery. Success depends on whether children and parents in China will be able to recognise these cultural stories in our sets. But it also shows curiosity, that we want to know more and are willing to learn about cultures other than our own. It’s inspiring to be part of our drive to continue our journey in China. Keeping the focus on an audience-first lens is fulfilling for me. It means stakeholder management and relationship building becomes even more important. But being part of the wider LEGO team helps enormously.”

The first three months of everyone’s LEGO® journey really matter. Just imagine it was your job to take charge of them. How would you make everyone feel at home and set them up to achieve their full potential? This is the challenge faced by our Global Onboarding & Orientation Manager, Tine Vind.

“16 years is a long time to work anywhere. But there are many good reasons as to why I’m still here. Our inspiring vision of a global force for Learning through Play. The sense of belonging I felt from the get-go is still here. The feeling of being part of something bigger. The fact that play is not only encouraged as part of my job but is expected. The list is endless.

“I head up onboarding and orientation for all new talent globally. From the moment a contract is signed and three months into their new role, with all the key moments in between. This work is very important, as it means we’re not only able to attract amazing talent but also to retain it. I’m a huge people person. For me, having the opportunity to interact with so many talented new joiners from around the world is a joy. On top of that, I get to collaborate with many colleagues to ensure we have the best possible onboarding experience.

“I try to think about my work from the perspective of open-ended possibilities – just like building with LEGO bricks. That only the imagination is the limit to what we can do. This opens up for new ideas and input that contribute to taking our work up a notch.

“When I first joined the LEGO Group back in 2006, I got to work on a project called LEGO Factory. This enabled anyone to design their own LEGO set digitally, order it and have it sent to them. This was a completely new way of thinking for us. It required many changes, both in our internal processes and fulfilment, to make it happen. This project laid the foundation for other initiatives that followed. LEGO® Pick a Brick was one. LEGO Ideas, that encourages users to share their creations. If they get enough votes, they could even be made into a real LEGO set. This project was amazing in many ways. It pushed boundaries, set new standards and showed that it was possible to do things in new ways.” 

“We develop as people and learn best when we play, explore our imagination and have fun. This is even more important in a constantly changing world and workplace. We take play and fun seriously and do our best to incorporate it into our work. When we have fun together, it also gives us that sense of community and togetherness that we strive for.”
