Wind power propels the LEGO Group towards 100% renewable energy

By harnessing the renewable power of wind, the LEGO Group will offset its global energy use, with a 2020 goal of balancing 100% of global energy use by renewable energy sources.

In 2012 the LEGO Group’s parent company KIRKBI A/S invested approximately EUR 400 million toward construction of an offshore wind farm called Borkum Riffgrund 1 located off the coast of Germany in the North Sea.

KIRKBI A/S owns approximately one third of the wind farm’s production of electrical power which will produce enough energy to power approximately 100,000 U.S. residential homes.

"We evaluate, build and operate as energy efficient factories and offices as we can,”
says Jørgen Vig Knudstorp, President and Chief Operating Officer of the LEGO Group.

“While we will continue to prioritize these energy-saving projects, we’re committed to longer-term solutions like this wind farm to produce renewable energy that will power the next generation of builders."
