Meet the LEGO Games team, part 1
What roles are required in a LEGO Games design team to transform a game idea to a concept and create a solid game experience?
Describe your team in one sentence:
Innovative, extrovert, passionate game freaks!
Describe your job in one sentence:
Jesper: Go create!
Cephas: Solve problems while having as much fun as possible.
Jesper: Professional fire fighters
Describe HEROICA in five words:
Immersive, social, exciting, expandable, imaginative, “inspiring inspiration”
That’s seven words, folks. But okay.
How do you become a game designer?
As a kid, you can start by drawing a lot, do crafts, be creative and play with LEGO (in our case). You have an unconditional thrill for playing and inventing games. Later on, it helps to study in areas like industrial design, product design with focus on games or computer games, etc.
But everything is possible, only two of our team members have backgrounds like that.
Cephas: Bachelor of Arts, Graphic Design, Marketing
Henk: Master of Science, Biological Engineer
Jesper: Media science, radio commentator, kindergarten teacher, Danish Game Expert and “Coffee Drinker of the Month” – every month.
Baastian: Master of Product Design and Industrial Engineering
Mat: Graphic designer, from Wales, I specialize in character and tile design, drinking coffee – actually make that tea. I’m not sure I’ll be allowed back into Britain if I say I drink coffee.
Nicolas: Games and Educational Materials Designer
"Flavia: Rules Coordinator - I have a Bachelor's in Illustration (concentration animation) and a Master´s in Multimedia. I've also taken lots of film courses.
Max: Two years training in New Circus Arts, two years as social worker and working at toy and game libraries in France, helped arrange Alors Jouons toy festival, independent game designer.
For those out there who want to become LEGO designers, what is your best advice?
Study design. If you want to become a LEGO Games designer, sorry, the job’s already taken! ;oD
