Question : Can you connect all TECHNIC pieces to all LEGO bricks?
Answered by : Allen Demers, LEGO Model Designer

Yes and no. TECHNIC and System pieces are compatible, but you cannot really attach one TECHNIC connector peg to a 2x4 LEGO brick in any functional way. The TECHNIC line was developed to bridge the world of structures (made primarily with LEGO System elements) and the world of mechanisms (made functional by TECHNIC elements).

Question : How can I make a spiral staircase for my LEGO house?
Answered by : Allen Demers, LEGO Model Designer

When building with LEGO elements, repeating patterns can be used to create interesting effects. You can stack plates and make curves by omitting one side of a "ladder" of 1x1 and 1x8 plates. Now give the ladder a gentle twist and the ends without plates will start to rotate in the direction you are twisting. The result resembles a small-scale spiral staircase. Using L-plates will also give this effect.

Question : How can I make tall buildings that aren't wobbly?
Answered by : Allen Demers, LEGO Model Designer

In order to make real buildings less wobbly, architects build a foundation underground to help support the building. Unfortunately we cannot really do that when building with LEGO elements! However, depending on how small and thin your model is, you may want to try using some TECHNIC elements and reinforcing them inside the building with beams. This will give your model more support.
